Turning Back the Pages Day Camps
Back to Main Page
Every August for the past 17 years volunteers have conducted a day camp for area children who will be entering the 2nd through 5th grades in the fall.

The camps are held from 9 am to 12 noon, costs $40 per child and includes a mid-morning snack each day.

Here are just a few of the fun activities that the children enjoyed in 2006.
The 2008 Turning Back the Pages Day Camp will be held from 9 am to 12 noon on Tuesday, August 12 & Wednesday, August 13.

Hope you can join us!
The children started off their first day with an arcaeological dig to locate items hidden in the ground.  Some said they had never played in the dirt before!
Have you ever seen a sheep with four horns before?  Mr. Kentner brought one of his heritage English sheep with him for the children to see, pet and learn about.  This sheep is called a Jacob sheep and, as you can see, is bi-colored and has four horns.
Mrs. Layman helped the children do laundry the way it used to be done...by hand!  The children hauled water using a water yoke over their shoulders.  They scrubbed and scrubbed the clothes and put them through the wringer before hanging them on the clothesline to dry.  This was one of the favorites chores (especially the first week when it was 94 degrees out).
Of course, after the chores were done, the children enjoyed old-fashioned games such as bean-bag toss, pull-out sticks, stilts, and "graces".
