The Unruh Barn
This barn was built during the 1870s on the east side of Marsh Road, just south of Tihart Road.   It was owned at various times by the Grettenberger family, who sold it to the Unruh's. Two generations of the Unruh family used this barn, which was originally a two-story structure.

In 1991, the Eyde family generously donated the building to the Friends of Historic Meridian to add to the Meridian Historical Village.   This building made a wonderful addition to our "farmstead" area of the Village.

Today, the interior houses a display of antique farming tools along with a blacksmith display.  In addition, a corn sheller and grist mill are used inside the barn to teach school children about how our ancestors took hard field corn and made it into finely ground cornmeal.

On occasion we are fortunate to have one or more farm animals visit for a day (e.g. a calf or chickens). These animals are housed in the barn so the local "city kids" can get a "hands-on" experience with farm animals.
